Unsafe Conditions Force Closure of Trout Creek Bridge in Siskiyou County

The Shasta-Trinity National Forest has closed the Trout Creek Bridge near the Trout Creek Campground after discovering significant structural damage that makes the footbridge unsafe for public use.
According to forest officials, the bridge has developed a large crack running nearly the entire length of the span. The damage poses a serious safety risk, prompting the Forest Service to prohibit anyone from being on the bridge.

The closure took effect Jan. 17, 2026, and is scheduled to remain in place through Jan. 17, 2027. During that time, public access to the bridge will not be allowed under any circumstances.
A limited number of exemptions apply. Federal, state, and local officers, as well as organized rescue or firefighting personnel performing official duties, are permitted to access the area. Individuals holding a Forest Service permit that specifically exempts them from the closure are also allowed.
Forest officials emphasized that ignoring the closure could carry serious consequences. Violators may face fines of up to $5,000 for individuals or $10,000 for organizations, as well as possible jail time of up to six months.
